ALARMA! at the Mexico City Film Festival
If you happen to be in Mexico City this weekend, take a break from eating delicious tacos and semi-legal pharmaceuticals to catch a screening of our Alarma! documentary at the Mexico City Film Festival. In case you have no clue what an Alarma! is, it happens to be the pinnacle of Mexico’s prensa roja (red press)—publications that chronicle all of the gory news stories, horrible accidents, and gruesome narco-related murders in all of their blood-drenched glory.
Last year we interviewed the editor of this esteemed tabloid and took it one further by following their cameramen around the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city for a VBS series that many people can only watch with hands partially covering their eyes. Friday at 5 PM a 50-minute uncut version will premier at Cinemex Insurgentes, with additional screenings throughout the weekend (and one that’ll happen next Saturday).
