Chris Nieratko and 15 skaters sneak into Havana, Cuba with the sole intention of bringing skateboards to the children of the forbidden island. They basically barged the embargo with over 200 skateboards, 100 pairs of shoes and more skate product than most skate shops. Until that point Cuban skaters could not get new skateboards, so what was seen were war-torn, weather-beaten, flat spotted wheels, cracked trucks and long since dead boards held together by nails and reinforced with 2“x4“s. Their only chance for a new deck was a miracle and that’s exactly what they got when our selfless crew, led by Vice’s own staff writer, Chris Nieratko, showed up at their local skate park and handed out new boards for everyone.
