Suroosh Alvi goes to Mecca on Hajj, CNN likes what they see

By VBS STAFF

This week CNN’s running Mecca Diaries, the Vice Guide to Travel where our intrepid founder Suroosh Alvi travels to Saudi Arabia with his family to witness one of the Five Pillars of Islam: Hajj. If you’re unaware what Hajj is, here’s your chance to burrow your way out of mommy’s couch and learn a little something.

What you’ll find is that Hajj is a massive meeting of Muslims in Mecca attended by some three million believers from across the globe. In Islam, it’s considered a sacred duty of every practitioner to complete the pilgrimage at least once in their life. For Muslims, the Hajj is both an intense, personal submission to God and a symbol of brotherhood between all Muslims. Witness for yourself the experience that Suroosh describes as “beyond what [he] could have ever imagined.”
