DISHIN' WITH HEIMO'S CUZ

James Campbell is the guy who wrote the book on Heimo Korth. As in the actual book on him, the one up there in the picture. The Final Frontiersman.
James is Heimo’s cousin and grew up inundated with stories about his relation’s Alaskan exploits. After becoming a successful outdoorsman and wilderness-writer in his own right, he sent Heimo a letter asking if he could come document his life. Then another, and another, and another. Finally, Heimo relented and let James sleep in the little yellow tent we stayed in in Heimo’s Arctic Refuge.
The resulting bio is one of the most engrossing non-fictive page-turners we’ve read since Helter Skelter. As said earlier, Heimo’s basically a real-life Jack London character, and there are parts of Final Frontiersman we’d classify as unrealistically improbable if they’d popped up in a novel. During the shoot, it was our bible. Many nights found us with flashlights propped up in our sleeping bags poring over its pages in search of some explanation for his virulent hatred of Nome, Alaska, or distaste of beets. You should really read this book if you have the time (and you have the time). Also, this chat we had with him.
