This Guy Got Stabbed by the Man He Was Interviewing for a Job

A guy went into a marketing agency looking for a job and ended up stabbing his would-be boss. That's a big no-no in any interview situation.

On Monday in El Cajon, California, a suburb of San Diego, a guy named Jose Franklin Lopez went into a marketing agency for a job interview and ended up stabbing his would-be employer.

According to the employer, Justin Zundt, the attacker walked up to him hours before the interview and asked him for a quarter—then, as Zundt told a reporter for the local ABC affiliate—Lopez said he had a job interview "right here across the street."

But apparently between begging for change and asking for a job, Lopez went and got wasted—possibly because it's really embarrassing when your potential future boss sees you panhandling. Lopez showed up "belligerent" and threw a punch at Zundt, who says he fought the guy off with his "martial arts training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu." Lopez also swung his skateboard at Zundt before running off.

Zundt called the cops and waited out front. But before they arrived, Lopez showed up again, this time with a knife. Zundt says Lopez ran at him and tried to stab him, but he managed to grab the knife away, apparently after a little grappling. When the cops found him, he was on the ground, wounded and bleeding but basically fine.

That's the nice thing about disgruntled people: Often they don't make the best attackers. In 2003, for example, California lawyer Jerry Curry had a pissed-off former client named William Striler unload a gun at him at point-blank range. Curry, who may or may not have had Brazilian jiu-jitsu training, survived the attack by bobbing around behind a tree like Bugs Bunny.

If there were footage of Lopez going after Zundt with that knife, I bet it would look like that: horrifying at first, and then kind of embarrassing. Although it wouldn't be as embarrassing as the fact that the cops caught Lopez—who is now being charged with assault with a deadly weapon—by going to the address on the job application he left behind.
