This Guy Ran Into a Burning Building to Save His BBQ Ribs

What was he going to do, let them burn?

When Robert Wright's apartment building in Fresno, California burst into flames at 2:30 in the morning yesterday, he quickly made sure his kids were safely evacuated. But then he realized there was something else to rescue: his BBQ ribs.

Wright, hungry for a late-night snack, had been cooking the ribs when he noticed the flames, which were coming from the neighboring apartment. (The fire was not related to his cooking.) What was he going to do, just leave them there? The man was hungry—so he ran back into the apartment and safely evacuated them, too.

In an interview with KMPH Fox26, during which he holds up the rack of ribs, Wright said: "The only thing I think first, man, 'Make sure those ribs is right.'" He added that he didn't want them to burn because he was hungry, and because "I take pride in what I do, man."

Neither Wright nor his family members suffered any injuries from the fire. Wright said he inhaled some smoke from the fire, but noted that he "already had smoke in my lungs, so I'm all right."
