We recently spent the afternoon in Australia's Gold Coast hinterland with one of our favorite practitioners of the fine arts. The strategies underpinning the paintings of Tim Patch (aka Pricasso) are multi-layered and complex, ranging from preoccupations with consciousness and the postmodern condition to the reasons behind art itself within an evolutionary framework. This rich terrain of ideas is a battlefield from which the painting struggles to emerge as an entity in its own right, resonating an age old dilema central to understanding who we are as a species.
