1,500 Americans Partying on a Michigan River Accidentally Ended Up in Canada

Canadian police had to deal with a strange, accidental US invasion on Sunday when approximately 1,500 Americans on rafts and pool floats in the St. Clair River accidentally crossed into Canada due to high winds. The Americans, who had been participating in an annual unsanctioned booze-fueled party called "Float Down" that started in Port Huron, Michigan, were then subsequently wet and stranded in Sarnia, Ontario for hours until 19 buses could pick them up to bring them back to their homeland.

"No one had [identification] or anything, they were unprepared to be stranded anywhere," Sarnia Police Service Staff Sergeant Scott Clarke told the Times Herald. "It was a bit of a nightmare, but we got through it," he added. "There were long waits and long lines, they were cold and wet, but they all made it home."

Instead of the Canadian Border Services dealing with the stranded Americans, that responsibility was passed along to the US officials. According to the Times Herald, the US Coast Guard helped 125 people back to shore who were unable to get there on their own, and they saved 40 lives. No deaths or serious injuries were reported.

As of Monday, according to the Hamilton Spectator, city workers in Sarnia were still cleaning up their shores after remnants of the party washed up, including picnic tables, beer cans, coolers, and rafts.

Now everyone in the US knows just how easy it is to get into Canada when they need to flee the Trumpocalypse.
