Seeing Through Xray Eyeballs
Xray Eyeballs played Death By Audio on a foggy, rainy Tuesday night in NYC. The band performed lo-fi new wave tunes off their latest album, Splendor Squalor, as well as their debut, Not Nothing.
Outside of bandleader O.J. San Felipe climbing atop his amp, losing his balance, and knocking said amp over, the set was devoid of crazy O.J. stage antics. One such incident happened a year and a half ago at this very club, when O.J. decided to hang off their drop ceiling. He caused enough damage that Death By Audio's management docked the band their pay for the gig. The incident is now Brooklyn indie rock legend…and that's something you can't buy.
As OJ climbed atop his amp, bassist/vocalist Carly Rabalais (who makes my yet-to-be-compiled list of the sexiest women in indie music) simply rolled her eyes and continued singing and strumming away on her Fender Musicmaster.
Opening for Xray Eyeballs was SISU, which features Sandy and Jules from Dum Dum Girls. Turns out that Sandy, who totally rocks behind a drum kit, also plays a mean guitar. The newly-recruited Jules sang backup vocals and played the keyboard. The band is playing a couple NYC dates before heading back on the road withDum Dum Girls. SISU's tour dates are here.
