Michel Gondry Is Finally Back to Making French-Speaking Films
Jan 28 2013
Earlier this year, VICE Films and Grolsch Film Works teamed up with the directors Harmony Korine, Alexey Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski to make a three-part film called The Fourth Dimension. Now, Grolsch Film Works have a new website where you can find out what they’ve been up to and read/watch interesting stuff about films. Every week we'll be plucking the highlights. This is that.
HUMAN CLONING IS REAL
I'm super excited about the release of Zero Dark Thirty this week, starring the extremely talented and beautiful Bryce Dallas Howard. No wait, Jessica Chastain. No, Bryce Dallas Howard. Damn it. It's just really hard to tell those two apart sometimes.
To be honest, looking at those two standing next to eachother gives me an uneasy feeling on the level of having to put on a pair of wet denim jeans (which is the WORST). That is until I look at pictures of these other Hollywood look-alikes, which all together make me want to sit in a cupboard in a tin-foil hat and mutter to myself about "the man", "the government", and "secret cloning programmes".
WIN TICKETS TO SEE THE OSCAR NOMINATED 'NO'
Having recently bagged itself an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, Pablo Larrain’s extraordinary No is on everybody’s lips. And what’s more, we’re giving you the chance to win tickets to a special screening and Q&A with star Gael Garcia Bernal at the Cine Lumiere in London on January 31 (that’s 8 days before the film is released!). Enter our competition below to be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets.
PUNKS ON FILM
“I created Punk for this day and age... I'm like a Sid Vicious for a new generation” says Avril Lavigne. Before ‘punk’ became something you bought in Claire’s Accessories next to the gold hoop earrings, it was a very viable force of anarchy in music, politics – and film. For example, the punk aesthetic inspired a short-lived guerrilla filmmaking period in downtown New York in the late '70s called the No Wave movement, from which emerged such luminaries as Steve Buscemi, Jim Jarmusch and Blondie. Here’s our list of the top ten punks on film; characters who, like a Mohican-sporting Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver (1976), point a pistol at the screen, because they wanna blow this sh*t up.
WATCH THE FIRST TRAILER FOR THE COEN BROTHERS' 'INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS'
So here it is, the first glimpse of the Coen Brothers' new project Inside Llewyn Davis, about NYC's folk music scene in the 1960s.
What strikes us right off the bat is, while there still remains typical Coen elements (southern accents and John Goodman for starters), Inside Llewyn Davis looks to be an unusually pensive and moody affair for the pair, when compared to their more manic movies like O Brother, Where Art Thou?. The movie stars Oscar Isaac as the titular Llewyn, along with Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund and (calm down, ladies) Justin Timberlake.
ALSO WATCH THE TRAILER FOR MICHEL GONDRY'S 'MOOD INDIGO'
Only a day after the new Coen Brothers trailer hit the web, another highly-anticipated movie has received its first trailer. We're really being spoiled here. Yes, it's our first glimpse of Michel Gondry's next movie Mood Indigo. Beyond the fact the title sounds a little too much like the name of the world's worst night-club, the movie sees a return by Gondry to French-language films; perhaps in an effort to rediscover his genius after a string of disappointing, bigger budget flicks (can someone remind us why The Green Hornet happened?).
