The Labour Party suffered a major upheaval over the weekend, with at least nine shadow cabinet members resigning in a show of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. Corbyn had fired ex-shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn at 1AM on Sunday, and the resignations followed throughout the day afterwards.

Shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander, shadow environment secretary Kerry McCarthy, shadow transport secretary Lilian Greenwood and shadow Scottish secretary Ian Murray – Labour's only MP in Scotland – were among those who headed for the exit.

Labour Party deputy leader Tom Watson had been at Glastonbury festival when the exodus began, seen on Snapchat at the Silent Disco around the time Benn was getting the boot.

A £349,463 Euromillions prize has gone unclaimed in Rochdale, after the owner the winning ticket, bought in December, failed to come forward and claim their cash in time. This is the second time this month that a winning ticket from Rochdale wasn't cashed in – and the last prize was reportedly worth £1 million.

"To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis," said a National Lottery spokesperson. "We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it's a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation."

The money is now due to be spent on "local causes" instead.

Sweepee Rambo, a 17-year-old Chinese crested chihuahua, won this year's Ugliest Dog contest on Friday night. The judges were paying attention to characteristics like smell, complexion and other maladies/malformations.

The blind dog, who has bowed legs and an open sore, was runner-up in the competition last year. Jason Wurtz, Sweepee's owner, walked away with about £1,000 thanks to the win.

West Virginia Disaster
FLOODS IN WEST VIRGINIA KILLED MORE THAN 20 PEOPLE
Obama declared a major disaster, promising federal aid to the state

Severe floods in West Virginia had killed at least 24 people by Sunday, after heavy rain on Thursday led to some of the worst floods to hit the US state in 100 years.

"We have lost almost entire towns in some cases," Tim Rock, spokesman for the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said. "There are going to be a lot of rebuilding, a lot of people without homes, a lot of businesses destroyed."

President Barack Obama declared a major disaster in the state, after Governor Earl Ray Tomblin had requested federal aid to help some of the 30,000 homes affected by the flooding.
