NEW YORK - HARRY MERRY'S GHOST STORY
We heard deranged-pop eccentric Harry Merry was in town for a few days so we wanted to sit down and talk with him about spooky things. But oops, Dutch people don't know about Halloween. Actually, he thought it was Christmas. We chatted about it over potato pancakes.
Harry: It looks like Christmas in here.
Vice: With all the dead orange and brown leaves? And fake cobwebs? It looks like Halloween to me.
Oh yes, Halloween! Dutch people don’t know these things. They don’t know that the 31st of October is Halloween. But I know it now and for the future.
What does Halloween seem like to you?
It’s nice to be reminded of the existence of scary things.
What are some of your favorite scary things?
Racing against the clock. That’s very scary. And Bela Lugosi.
You seem like someone who’d know about ghosts.
Yeah, but I don’t know if I really saw them.
What did they look like?
One had a mustache. They looked like they were working on the street.
Where were you?
At my home in Rotterdam.
What happened?
I saw them and I heard them for hours. They were having a conversation. I was ill. I woke up from a dream and I heard them for hours.
What were they talking about?
About doing a job, “finishing” things.
So they were boring ghosts.
Well, they were talking about their job to break in to a house.
Are you sure they weren’t just robbers?
Then I realized it was not real, that it was a projection of the imagination.
Well, did you try to talk to them?
I do try to talk to ghosts but they have not answered me back yet.
On top of this, he spent about ten minutes muttering about meatballs, used my cell phone for about a half an hour, and then kindly offered to roll a joint at the table. Dude is one special kook. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.
