San Fransisco - Date With Lady Sovereign
An obsessed fan, Zach Slow, bagged a date with Lady Sovereign by raising $10,000 to take her on a luxury night out. He got the money from donations to his website using pathetic pleas, such as: “this night is for ALL of us... the little guys... for everyone who's had a dream that didn't come true, we're going to show the world that anything is possible. Sure, it will be ME sippin' the champagne and handing SOV a diamond grill with MY name on it, but you will ALL be there with me... it will practically be your name on that grill. So let's show the world the power of community.”
Sov, used to a happy meal and a fondle behind the local cinema, jumped
at the chance to go on the extravagant night out and met him after her
San Fransisco gig.
Zach used his money to good effect, spending it on:
Yacht and private chef: $5,000
Stretched SUV limo for 5 hours: $1000
First class flights to LA: $1000
Hotel rooms plus a suite at super fancy hotel: $1500
Overly priced primo booze for 7 people: $700
Tips for staff on yacht and limo: $180
Limo to airport: $150
Gifts: $200
Paypal charges: roughly $270
Once it was all over, Zach posted this message, which we think perfectly sums up the whole event:
“It's hard to explain--maybe even impossible--how it feels to be sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge with nobody else around, under a sky filled with stars, and Lady Sovereign saying to you "lets smoke another blunt, Zach Slow!"”.
We did something similar a while back for our Grimewatch column. Our writer Clarence took grime MC Shystie on a date to the Natural History Museum. Clarence didn’t have as large a budget as Zach, but spent his money very wisely on a small plastic dinosaur as a present for Shystie.
