Crippling economic sanctions imposed on Iran by six world powers, including the US and the European Union, were lifted on Saturday after Iran curtailed its nuclear programme in line with a UN agreement.

In a move to coincide with the lifting of sanctions, Iran announced the release of five US citizens held in its prisons, including the Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian.

Billions of dollars of Iranian assets held abroad will now be unfrozen and global companies will now be able to trade in the country, taking advantage of an Iranian market hungry for foreign goods.

A man who was left brain dead after taking part in an experimental drug trial in France died in hospital this weekend.

Five other participants from the drug trial remain in hospital, four of them suffering from "neurological problems".

The trial, which has now been suspended, involved participants taking a drug orally and was conducted by a private laboratory in the city of Rennes.

Ninety people took part in the trial of the experimental drug manufactured by the the Portuguese drug company Bial.

At least 29 people were killed when al-Qaeda terrorists attacked a hotel in the capital city of Burkina Faso this weekend.

People from 18 different nationalities, including six Canadian, two French, two Swiss and one Dutch, were killed when four jihadi gunmen stormed the Splendid Hotel in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.

Security forces freed 150 hostages after storming the hotel and killing the gunmen.

A company that designs male sex toys this weekend claimed to have set up a "masturbation booth" in central Manhattan.

The so-called "GuyFi booth" apparently comes with a laptop, chair and curtain for privacy.

Hot Octopuss, the company claiming responsibility for the booth, says they came up with the idea because "working a nine to five job can be stressful on both your mind and body" and that they were "all about looking for new solutions to improve everyday life".
