Margot Robbie Is Tonya Harding in the 'I, Tonya' Trailer

The upcoming biopic is set to hit theaters this winter.

The first teaser trailer for I, Tonya dropped Thursday, and it gives us our first look at Margot Robbie as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding.

The biopic, directed by Lars and the Real Girl's Craig Gillespie, traces Harding's life from her rough teenage years in Oregon through the infamous 1994 attack on her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan that got her banned from the US Figure Skating Association.

It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month to rave reviews and Oscar buzz for both Robbie as well as Allison Janney as Harding's abusive mother—but, aside from a few photos, the teaser is the first time we've been able to see either of them in character.

In the minute-long clip, we see Harding step out onto the ice at the 1993 World Figure Skating Championships and launch into a triple axel as she trashes her haters in voiceover.

"America," Harding says, "they want someone to love. But they want someone to hate—and the haters always say, 'Tonya, tell the truth.' There's no such thing as truth. It's bullshit."

According to the New York Post, the film is framed with documentary-style interviews set in present day and makes constant use of voiceover and direct address throughout, but the VO works particularly well in the teaser to drop us inside Harding's mind. The rest of the teaser gives us quick shots of Janney as Harding's mother LaVona, and Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), who helped dream up the insane scheme to break Nancy Kerrigan's leg so she couldn't compete in the Olympics.

The teaser trailer comes right after the film nabbed two Gotham Award nominations Thursday for Best Feature and Best Actress for Margot Robbie. I, Tonya will see a limited release on December 8, followed by a larger release expected this January.

Until then, give the teaser trailer a watch above.
