GOOGLE HARNESSES POWER OF THE SUN
Google now controls all the world's information and, soon enough, a major share of its power.
Google has expressed an interest in going completely carbon neutral, and this is a big step in that direction. But even more valuable to Google are the abilities acquired by fusing their massive data centers with the capacities of a major utility. In effect, Google will be able to sell services for mitigating power consumption in industrial buildings, homes, whatever. The income from this new market will make Google’s bread and butter, search, even cheaper and the company itself yet more influential.
The big question here is, how long can the omniscient giant continue to honor its “Don’t Be Evil” creed? As Google continues to amass considerable power in its various endeavors, it will become increasingly difficult to avoid a bending toward tyranny. Google’s already seen its fair share of controversy. How long can they hold out before someone comes along and fucks up Larry and Sergey’s idealism? Is the supposed idealism all bullshit? And what exactly does this indicate?
