HONG KONG BLOODLUST

By JAMES TENAFLY

Producers in Taipei and Hong Kong have finally found a way to bring people the news stories they want. Namely, tales of horrific local violence. Everyday, the Apple Daily tabloids release digital cartoons depicting yesterday’s gruesome crimes, capturing every sordid detail. Recently, the murder of a police officer was animated in vivd detail, capturing the perp’s haircut, clothes, even the exact length of the blade used in the slaying. And just to be sure public bloodlust is satiated, the dying cop is shown with spurts of crimson spraying from his gaping neck. Awesome, right? Some of the animations can be found here. If you read Chinese, you’ll have no problem navigating to the desired videos. For the rest of you, keep clicking through until you see one with, what appear to be, video game scenes half way through.
