Lady Chann, formerly known as Chanelle Williams, got her start in the Suncycle Crew, a North London squad of the best talent around. They built up a serious rep, using dancehall as a reference point instead of a rulebook. Now she’s the latest queen of UK dancehall, riding a wave of buzz that may help her bust into the mainstream.
She’s grafted hard since her humble beginnings, bringing the dancehall sound to a more accessible zone. She draws influences from collaborations with the best and brightest of the British dance scene—we first heard her on 2010's “Sticky Situation,” which she cut with garage producer Sticky. That collab raised the bar for her upcoming debut album, rumored to involve dubstep super-producers Benga and Skream, as well as the Orlando-based South Rakkas Crew.
She’s no shrinking violet in the clubs either. Chann’s head-spinning, high-BPM flow was honed during her Suncycle years. She’s a confident talent that can tear up any venue.
You should definitely watch part two right now.
