NY REVIEW OF GARBAGE PATCHES
Remember when our very own Thomas Morton first reported on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? We put the video up on VBS for all to see and it struck up considerable conversation in the ensuing months. Even Oprah got in on it. Well, here we are about a million years later and people are still yammering on about it. Over at the New York Review of Books, Chris Jordan is showing off his photos of albatross chicks of the Midway Atoll whose innards have been demented and deformed by their diet of iPod chargers, ChapStick tubes, and Walkman remnants. The decomposing birds are so chock-full of trash, they look like smashed animatronic from some failed ride-version of The Birds.
But don’t worry, the problem’s being handled! Good old planet Earth seems to be taking out the proverbial trash as we speak. According to famed British scientist James Lovelock, Spaceship Earth is gearing up to give human beings the boot, regardless of how green we go.
