PT ANDERSON'S SCIENTOLOGY EPIC

PT Anderson's about to get a whole shitload of death threats.

The movie doesn’t mention Scientology per se, but it is a period piece about a nutjob sci-fi author who devises an alien-peppered religion in 1952, marries a girl half his age, employs an interrogation-style therapy on converts, and later unravels into a drug-addicted paranoid mess who lives his last days out on a ship. So, pretty much Hubbard’s life story without the words “Dianetics,” “auditing,” or “Scientology.” Anyone familiar with their brutal scare-tactics, assassination plots, and history of government espionage knows that screwing with Scientology, even without mentioning their “church” by name is dangerous. Then again, he might not make a Scientology-is-bad film in the end.
