"Whenever I was in Blockbusters as a kid with my Dad, picking up a family friendly VHS for that nights entertainment, I would always sneak off on my own and look at the videos I wasn't allowed to see, mainly pornos, adult comedies and horror films. One of the VHS cases that always freaked me out the most was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for all the obvious reasons. Leatherface wielding that big ass chainsaw stuck with me. He seemed scarier and more real than the other horror baddies on display; Pinhead and Freddy were too fake for me. A formerly human creature from an extra dimensional realm just didn't have the same impact as a big, fat, inbred dude using gardening equipment for evil. Even as child I was a realist. Years later when I finally saw the film I wasn't as scared as I thought I was going to be, I don’t know why, maybe it’s because I’d been subliminally thinking about Leatherface for so many years and the things he does in the film weren't as graphic as the crazy shit my child brain conjured up. But the image of that VHS in Blockbusters definitely got inside my head for many years. Leatherface is iconic and I’m glad that I got the chance to draw him for this project." - Sam Taylor
