CMJ Bullshit - The Terrible Records Showcase

Have you been wondering where to go to read some fresh and exciting coverage of this year's CMJ Music Festival? WELL HERE IT IS!

I would like to start this music post much in the same way I start all the others, by telling you about my life. I am currently really sweaty for no good reason, and my body feels like it has no bones. I only got roughly 45 minutes of sleep last night, and just moments ago, while walking to get some random ass pastrami sandwich from the deli, I smiled at a bike tire, and then started to whistle. A lot of these ailments have to do with the fact that I have a very real and true crush on someone (AWWWWW!) but they are also to be blamed on the Terrible Records showcase I went to at Glasslands in Brooklyn last night, which kept me up way past my bed time.

What you may notice right away is that I didn't take any photos at this show. I didn't take any photos at the show, because I was busy making out with the above mentioned crush in the balcony, which is more important than photos, music, sleep, or pretty much anything else at this point. I guess this post is pretty much all about me liking someone.

The exciting thing about this showcase was that it featured Kirin J Callinan and his first ever show in the United States. We premiered his video for "WIIW" not too long ago, and I've been mildly obsessed with him ever since. Although Kirin didn't play the hit I was waiting to hear (the one in that video I just linked) he did debut some intriguing dance moves for us, and make facial expressions that reminded me of a mix between Fonzie and Balki from Perfect Strangers. Before he even took his shirt off, I couldn't help but notice his nipples peeking out from his little tank top or whatever. They looked like funny flaps. When all was said and done, I'd consider his first show here to be a great success. Oh! And I also really liked his use of lighting.

After Kirin finished his set, Light Asylum played. We watched them through the balcony slits while sitting on the couch upstairs. Not because we were like "whatever" about them, but because we wanted to be able to maybe touch legs, and also because I swear they play a show almost every day, and I've seen them roughly 20 times. They're always amazing. If you haven't seen them yet, you need to. Here's a video of them playing at Glasslands a couple of years ago:

After Light Asylum, LE1F came on and I would assume that everyone was really into it, but I can't be sure because I was super busy having a butt rubbed on me and kissing my face off. So I guess I was "that person" at this show. I don't care.

I was supposed to say hi to people at this show, but I only managed to awkwardly mumble words in Ethan Silverman's (label owner) face (who didn't remember me, even though I wrote THIS). This concludes day one of CMJ Bullshit. Stay tuned for day two.
