Texas Lieutenant Governor Says Dallas Protestors Were 'Hypocrites' for Running from Bullets

Texas Governor Greg Abbott asked the country to come together in his open letter addressing the Dallas rampage that left five police officers dead and several others wounded, his colleague Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick had a much different take on the tragedy.

"All those protesters last night, they turned around and ran the other way expecting the men and women in blue to protect them. What hypocrites!" Patrick said in an interview with Fox News on Friday.

The Dallas News reported that Patrick went on to blame the Black Lives Matter movement and protestors for putting police officers' lives at risk following a peaceful protest in Dallas aimed to bring attention to the officer involved shootings that left Alton Sterling and Philando Castile dead this week.

Their stories caused outrage across the country, mostly due to the fact that both were filmed and posted online—Sterling by bystanders and Castile by his fiancee, who was sitting next to him as he died.

But as the peaceful protest was ending Thursday night, snipers shot at law enforcement on the streets of Dallas, wounding seven officers and killing five, as well as two civilians. Obama condemned the attack from Warsaw, calling it a "vicious, calculated, and despicable attack on law enforcement."

Patrick's remarks, on the other hand, were a bit more combative. "We have to have their back," Patrick said of law enforcement. "And I'm sick and tired of those who are protesting our police and putting their lives in danger."
