Donald Trump tried to roast Hillary Clinton at Thursday night's Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner, and, by all accounts, he bombed. After a few mediocre jokes, Trump's speech veered into political rhetoric territory, and the audience booed.Even Al Smith V, the great-great grandson of Alfred E. Smith, for whom the Catholic charity dinner is named, said the room got "a little uncomfortable" when Trump's barbs turned—to borrow a phrase—nasty.Smith told CNN on Friday morning that Trump's comment about how Clinton "is tonight in public pretending not to hate Catholics" was a misguided and inappropriate attempt to poke fun at Hillary's WikiLeaks comments about Catholicism.
