Hot, Euro & Gay

Cool girl bands you have never even heard of from, like, Denmark and Japan and stuff.

Hey, so you know Jessica? That hot Dutch dyke with the Nico voice who puts out Kutt Magazine? Yeah, her. She’s so hot, every little hipster lezzie in New York is totally sweating her.

I think Kutt’s a pretty good mag, except that it was supposed to be, like, cool lesbian porn but all the nudie pictures in it are of totally skinny model-y girls. I guess that’s cool if you’re into rib-cage porn. (“Ooh yeah, baby, lemme see you spreeeaad that rib cage.”) But whatever, my point is that Jessica and her ex-girlfriend, who does this weird conceptual record-label thingy in France (très expérimental, naturellement), just put out this compilation CD of all Euro girl bands and it’s not even electro or anything! It’s called Toxic Girls! Nightmare For (13) Unlucky Boystars. I think I heard that Kill Rock Stars is gonna put it out in the U.S., but I’m not sure. They should though, cuz it’s pretty awesome—lots of lo-fi “experimental” noisy shit and some moody, horror-movie ambient-music loops. One or two actual song-songs. Some good bratty-girl vocals, too. With accents! Total bonus.

It’s weird, cuz it’s all these bands that you’ve never even heard of from, like, Denmark and Japan and stuff. Milkymee, The Konki Duet, Semiautomatic, The Very Ape, Noak Katoi, Thyra Hilden Band, The Red Lights, DO.PE vs. Ceweecee, Rhythm King and Her Friends (their song “Pants” is my favorite). I don’t know shit about these bands other than that they’re foreign, they’re arty, and they’re chicks. Check, check, and checkmate!

Jessica gave me a copy last time she was in town for some Kutt party. You called it “Night of a Thousand Ironic Mullets.” You’re pretty funny sometimes. I miss you so much. I can’t wait till you finish your dissertation. But so, I’ve been listening to this CD a lot (and the new Cat Power when I’m feeling more melancholy, which seems more often these days) and it makes me think of you cuz I know you’d really appreciate it. I can burn you a copy, or you can just get it from tsunami-addiction.com. Actually, you should buy one. “Support the community,” ha ha.
