Michael Stipe
Indefatigable R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has always created distinct and interesting visual work, from early music videos and album covers to lighting and stage design. Now, the art school dropout produces three-dimensional sculptures, reconfigured painting works and digital photography out of both his New York and Athens-based studios. Mediating on obsolete or forgotten objects, Stipe updates his Tumblr with his photography and updates on his pieces and projects. We sat down with Stipe to discuss his contemporaries, how his photography fuels his artwork and the enduring legacy of punk rock.
