My Date with Paul Rodriguez

Paul Rodriguez is a skateboarding machine. Calling him a “professional” skateboarder doesn't begin to describe how professional he really is.

Paul Rodriguez is a skateboarding machine. Calling him a “professional” skateboarder doesn't begin to describe how professional he really is. He is a true gentleman on a piece of wood and undeniably one of the greatest skateboarders of our generation. So when Mountain Dew offered to fly me out to LA to shoot some photos and skate with him, I said no way, nerds. JK, I cancelled all my plans and hopped on a plane as fast as I could.

The day I flew in I met P-Rod at his private skatepark to teach him a thing or two. Being at his TF was kinda trippy, and I felt pressured to skate better than usual. I even Ollied the six-stair, which is the most stairs I’ve Ollied since I quit Ollying stairs 13 years ago when I started skating. After I was nice and loosened up, I worked up the courage to Ollie over Paul and his $100 billion-dollar legs, which was terrifying. All I could think about was how I might end his career if I landed on him, but then I realized what a great asset to my Instagram it would be and sucked it up. After skating we went back to his house where, much to my surprise, three feral dogs were living. Paul told me he and his girlfriend had found the animals earlier that day and were keeping them in the backyard until they knew what to do with them. So not only is he a self-made millionaire and one of the world’s best skateboarders with looks that kill, he’s also an animal activist who saves lives. Dream boat! I don't know what else to say about Paul except he is the man and it was a total pleasure spending the afternoon with him. I miss you, Paul.
