NIGERIAN QVC FROM HELL

By DARYOUSH HAJ-NAJAFI

qvd According to this guy who used to work at French Vogue, there's an editor there who, if she hates something, says it's "non moderne." If she likes something it is "moderne" and if she loves something it is "très moderne." Try it for yourself, it'll make you sound dead fashion. With that in mind, let's just say New Power Studio's Black Duck, the sploshing-filled promo for New Power Studio's second collection, is really moderne, as that description is as spot-on baffling but doesn't take as long to type as "bizarro-world Nigerian QVC light entertainment."

Black Duck is New Power Studio's latest collection: a range of shorts made from rubber piping, graphic shirts, black Orville the Duck Tees and reclaimed dustbin-man uniforms. New Power Studio's Thom Murphy says the film and his clothes are meant to make people smile. And it does make you smile, but it also makes you wonder if you've somehow subscribed to a TV channel shot on location in Terry Gilliam's brain. Watch for yourself.
