“I’m in the US army and I was in Iraq from April 2005 to January 2006 training the Iraqi army and police. I met this kid in the northern Iraqi town of Avgani. He’s wearing an Iraqi army helmet from one of the soldiers with us. We were doing a presence patrol in town, talking with the locals.” Photo by Kevin Smith.


In this photo, an Iraqi soldier is leaving a house after having searched it for weapons in a joint operation of the 213th Battalion of the Iraqi army and American soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armored Regiment out of Fort Riley, Kansas.
