Celebrate good times! All the mountain decapitation that's been going on to excavate coal (which we covered a while back on
Toxic West Virginia) and ensuing ash floods and pollution may soon be over... the Interior Department just announced that they'll
keep an eye on that. Not the one eye they said was on it
two months ago, but another one.
I feel so much better when officials say "all hands are on deck," even better than when they explain that something's "on the table," because I'd rather be felt up than eat dinner. OK, but seriously, the Interior says they're gonna check out who's running what and how and see what they can do about not violating the Clean Water Act. This is real progress from their statement two months ago in which they announced a plan to scrutinize
79 mining permits to see if anyone's doing anything bad. All in all, such a relief--I was really getting tired of Obama's meek people making mild-mannered euphemisms and vague statements. It's nice to see some clear, strong, definitive plans of action.
