'Serial' Is Going Biweekly to Allow for Additional Reporting

That means every other week, not twice a week.

The second season of Sarah Koenig's true crime podcast, Serial, started last month, and while the story of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has yet to tickle the collective minds of America like Hae Min Lee's murder or all that recent Steven Avery hubbub, this season is still a deep and complex look at the Afghanistan War and Bergdahl's alleged desertion.

Apparently it's a little too complex for the usual week-to-week episode release, though. Serial will be moving to a biweekly schedule for the rest of the season to allow time for more reporting, according to the New York Times.

"There are more paths we need to go down," Serial's executive producer, Julie Snyder, told the Times. "Since we started broadcasting the show, we have gotten more people willing to talk, and because of that, it has opened up more avenues of reporting."

The biweekly format will take effect immediately, with Thursday's episode being pushed to January 21 and the following installment coming February 4.

Snyder also said that the number of episodes this season will wind up being more than Koenig's original estimation of "eight to 10-ish," but it's still unclear if this season will stretch as far as August, when Sgt. Bergdahl's court-martial is scheduled.
