St. Paul's Cathedral Is Not Occupied Any More

300 police emptied it at midnight.

Early this morning, about 300 police descended upon the Occupy LSX camp outside St. Paul's Cathedral and emptied it in the same way as pretty much every other Occupy camp in the world has been emptied so far.

Police arrived a few minutes past midnight and set up a cordon that stopped anyone from entering, while at the same time letting out those who wanted to flee. One hour later, the bailiffs were forcibly clearing out the remaining tents. A small group of protesters had set up a barricade but only managed to hold off the police for an hour before that was pulled down. The whole thing did not take longer than four hours, but the protesters have vowed to keep on fighting at their other site nearby in Finsbury Square.

The protesters had been at St. Paul's since October 15th of last year. I guess we'll see in 2012 if Occupiers across the world have the legs to remain angry at the absurdities of the global banking system. My bet would be that they do.
