A Two-Second Interview with Fidlar at SXSW

Hanging with Fidlar in a hotel like it's NBD.

The other day we met up with Fidlar in their hotel and chatted about a variety of subjects. Their publicist was laying down on the floor in the lobby outside their room. SXSW takes it's toll on all, but we pushed on.

VICE: When did you guys get into Austin?

We got in on Monday night. We left Sunday during the day and got in Monday at 10PM.

How many shows have you played since you've been here?

Seven.

Do you have any say in where you wanna play?

Originally we had like 18 shows or something like that, but then we were like "you know what, we've gotta be realistic." Then we started picking and choosing the ones that would be the most fun. Obviously the VICE party was a big priority.

Does this seem weird at all? Just having people come into your hotel room and ask you questions?

We don't care.

How beneficial do you think shitstorms like SXSW are? People feel like they HAVE to be here, but do you think anyone really gets anything out of it?

Yeah, I mean, we're on a label now (Mom + Pop) so we're not here for that, but it's the best music festival. It's just fun. We'd wanna go anyway. We were already planning to go before we had shows. You never know who's gonna see you play.

What's with the name FIDLAR (Fuck it Dog, Life's a Risk). Is it serious?

It's not serious at all. It all started with skater kids in LA., like the Brooklyn Projects kids, they would always say "fuck it dog, life's a risk" before they bombed a hill or something. One night we got really wasted and ended up just tattooing it on ourselves, all of us.

How do you not go insane on the road?

We listen to a lot of This American Life.

This is what happens when you "fuck it, dog."
