VICE Premiere: Lil Reese's "Traffic [Remix]" Featuring Twista and Young Jeezy

Since I moved to New York City two years ago, I rarely ever get the chance to get behind the wheel of a car. So, I thoroughly miss my younger days, when I could hop in my mom's hatchback and ride through the suburbs, blasting gangster-ass rap music with buttloads of bass. My favorite shit to play when I first started driving was Young Jeezy's trap classic, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101; because that album made the ground shake like the T. Rex in Jurassic Park.  

When I first heard Lil Reese's "Traffic" on last year's excellent and cryptic Don't Like mixtape, all I could think about was how amazing it would be to hear that joint cranked all the way up, blowing out the speakers of a trunk. There is something special about the interplay between producer extraordinaire Young Chop's goth synths and Lil Reese's start-and-stop flow that makes you just want to lose it. Not to mention Reese's words in "Traffic" bring attention to the nasty, brutish, and short life that is experienced by many young people today growing up in the ghettos of Chicago. 

Now that Lil Reese has upped the ante on the song and tapped the Snowman and Chicago legend Twista for the remix of "Traffic," it's making me consider hijacking a gypsy cab just so I can hear the song properly. The additional verses also paint a broader picture of the very scary realities of ghetto life across America. When you consider that old vets like Jeezy and Tiwsta are sharing the sentiments of prodigy Lil Reese, you realize how deep the perils of street life go in our community.
