WEDNESDAY DOUBLE FEATURE

Tonight at the Walter Reade Theater Film Comment is presenting Dusty and Sweets McGee and American Hot Wax. If you haven't heard of them, we aren't terribly surprised. Both are incredibly hard to find... Dusty was only in theaters for a week in 1971, and American Hot Wax is the type of movie you can only order over the internet from some sketchy guy's eponymously titled video store.
Both films were directed by Floyd Mutrux, and they're both pretty amazing. Dusty is an unapologetic look at LA junkies in 1971, and American Hot Wax is about Alan Freed, the DJ who introduced Rock and Roll to mainstream America.
There will be a discussion with Mutrux after the screening of Dusty, where he'll talk about stuff like how he used the landscapes of LA in the film and how pop music influences his work. Get your tickets here.
And here's a clip from Dusty.
