SHIPS OF TITAN

By WILLIAM NIGH

A proposal put forth to NASA this week seeks to put a sea-faring vessel on Ligeia Mare, the Methane sea of Saturn’s moon Titan The mission promises to make mind blowing and unprecedented discoveries about our planetary neighborhood. So far, we’ve all our up close observations of Saturn have been made by the Cassini-Huygens robotic spacecraft, but Cassini can’t even land on the planet’s surface. As for faring the seas of our solar system, the closest we’ve come to that came earlier this year when we bombed the moon looking for water. If everything goes according to plan, expect a 2016 launch.
