Neapolitan Mastiffs!

The Cute Show

Neapolitan Mastiffs are a rare purebred that originated near Naples and descend directly from the Tibetan Mastiff, the king of all the mastiff dogs. The Neapolitan is a huge animal (it can weigh up to 250 pounds) with a massive head that once upon a time used to fight alongisde Roman infantry, defend patricians' houses, and fight against lions in arenas. But as opposed to most other killing machines, Neapolitan Mastiffs are incredibly cool-looking and kind of sweet, especially when they are puppies. We went to visit Neapolitan breeder Vito Salito, his wife, Rosa, and their massive dogs at their home in Castelvolturno, just outside Naples. Rosa made us the best coffee we've ever tasted in our lives. Thanks, Signora Rosa!
