TOMASELLI AT THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM
There’s a pretty fantastic show coming up in NYC: Fred Tomaselli’s mid-career retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum. I’ve never understood how a curator determines when a living artist is midway through their career — maybe they’ve got that Dead Zone deal going on? — but I’m glad regardless that it’s Tomaselli’s turn. The show’s not open until October 8th, so this advance warning gives you a month to forget about it and re-remember 3 months from now before it’s closed. The press release doesn’t do Tomaselli’s work much justice except this snippet which, looking at his work, makes him sound like a mutant dad: “Tomaselli’s artwork draws upon a wide range of sources from both popular culture and art history, and from his own hobbies of gardening, kayaking, and bird-watching.”
