Jozy Altidore was born in Newark, but his skills on the field have taken him to Europe’s most prestigious leagues. He’s currently fighting for a starting spot at Villareal in Spain’s La Liga. We decided to go visit him in Philly—an hour from where he was born— to chat about his exposure as a US player and to find out about what keeps him grounded. So we did the obvious: hung out, took him to get some of Geno’s Famous Philly Cheese Steaks, and talked soccer with a 20 year old who is poised to be one of the most important American soccer players of our time.
