Five Arrested Over Shooting of Black Lives Matter Activist in London

Police investigating the shooting of a Black Lives Matter activist in south London have made five arrests.

Five males, aged between 17 and 28, are in custody on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting of Sasha Johnson, 27, in Peckham in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Johnson, who was involved in the organisation of Black Lives Matter marches in the UK last summer, is in critical condition at a hospital in London.

The Metropolitan Police said they are working to establish a motive, but there is currently “nothing to suggest that Sasha was the subject of a targeted attack. At this time, police are also not aware of any reports of threats made against her prior to the incident.”

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: “While the investigation remains in its early stages, these arrests show that progress is being made.

“However, I would continue to appeal to those who may hold information about the events that led to Sasha receiving her horrific injuries, or about those responsible, to do the right thing and come forward and speak to police.”
