Marjorie Taylor Greene Is One Twitter Violation Away From a Permanent Ban

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Twitter account has been suspended for a week for posting COVID-19 misinformation, and the Georgia congresswoman is just one more violation away from a permanent ban.

Greene, whose account was locked for 12 hours last month because she posted COVID-19 misinformation, has been banned from posting on Twitter for seven days, after she claimed in a Monday night post that vaccines were “failing.”

A Twitter spokesperson told VICE News that “the Tweet was labeled in line with our COVID-19 misleading information policy,” adding that “the account will be in read-only mode for a week due to repeated violations of the Twitter Rules.”

In the post that triggered the latest suspension, Greene claimed that the Food and Drug Administration should not approve vaccines because of reports about the spread of COVID-19 among vaccinated people.

She inaccurately said that vaccines were “failing” despite the fact that widespread evidence shows that vaccines are protecting those who have received them while unvaccinated people make up the vast majority of people currently being hospitalized or dying from COVID 19.

Greene has been among the biggest boosters of COVID-19 disinformation and a major opponent of lockdowns as a measure to restrict the spread of the virus.

And based on Twitter’s own policies about repeat offenders, it looks like Greene is one more strike away from being permanently banned from the platform.

Greene has already established accounts on alternative platforms, including Gab, Telegram, and Parler, where she has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers. She also has a Facebook page with almost 300,000 followers—though she didn’t post the message about vaccines “failing” on that account on Monday evening.

Greene responded to the suspension on her Telegram account, saying “Twitter suspended me for speaking the truth, and tweeting what so many people are saying.”
