Since Airbnb disrupted the housing market in 2008, cities have been struggling to figure out how the home sharing company fits into urban infrastructure. And that road has been rocky: Landlords choosing to put their properties up for full-time, short-term rentals via Airbnb can cause increased demand and prices for city residents.In a new report, McGill University researchers David Wachsmuth and Alexander Weisler found that areas like Harlem and Bed-Stuy, which include lower-income housing, are seeing more apartments usurped by short-term rentals.
