Laurel Halo, a very strong contender for the most intriguing and prodigiously talented of the current group of rising electronic artists, is back with a new EP on Hyperdub. The steely, expansive and resolutely unpredictable Behind The Green Door will drop next month, but for now take a listen to taster, “Throw”.
On this EP Halo manages to bring in a swathe of influences, such as those in the playlist she kindly sent us below, yet without losing the insanely high energy levels and depth of tonal variance that blew us away when we caught her live last year. We can’t decide if it’s the cut from Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams or Doris Duke’s dulcet tones on ‘”Ghost of Myself” which is our favourite, but we know the EP itself is something we won’t be taking off repeat for a very, very long time. Have a listen below and get a glimpse into the mind of one of the most enigmatic rising talents around.
