Mathangi Arulpragasam has captained the global pop diaspora for eight years. She’s continually shocked, surprised and blessed the world with unrelenting creativity, writing nursery rhymes for post-colonial angst. Each video she has released, from “Born Free” and “Bad Girls” through to “Bring The Noize” has helped concrete her position as one of the world’s most important and exciting artists.

The release of any M.I.A video is an event, which is why we’re so hot for her new single, “YALA”, which premieres on the brand new i-D website today. A bunch of great people were involved. It was shot in London by legendary German fashion photographer Daniel Sannwald in his trademark psychedelic style. It was styled by Julia Sarr-Jamois with hair by Tina Outen and make-up by Lucia Pica. All clothes were provided by Kenzo.
