DJ Henri Matisse shares his Soundtracks for Life

Time to reveal which tracks Henri Matisse has picked out for our 'Soundtracks for Life' series. Turn up the volume!

Henrik Matthiassen, better known as DJ Henri Matisse, is a house and techno artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. With almost 20 years of experience under his belt, his journey to the world of electronic music began with a weekly radio show at a small local station in his hometown of Aarhus back in 1996. As soon as he was old enough to enter clubs, it was time for him to start playing in front of audiences. Before long, his hobby had transformed into his career, which has since brought him to various destinations around the world.

The year 2014 was undoubtedly one of the most prominent in Henrik's career so far. That summer, he became a runner up in the global burn Residency competition, giving him the chance to play at iconic Ibiza venues, including Space and Sankeys. This summer, Henrik returned to the magical island to play his music at boat parties, beach venues and on regular Ibiza Sonica radio shows. To top it all off, he played an epic four-hour set on the Space Ibiza Terrace at Carl Cox's legendary 'Music Is Revolution' night alongside 2015 burn Residency winner DJ Samanta.

Over the past few months, Henrik has begun to release his own material. With help from burn Residency head mentor Philipp Straub, his tracks have been brought out on respected labels including Monika Kruse's Terminal M Records and Carl Cox's Intec Digital.

In his selection of Soundtracks for Life, Henrik combines tracks past and present for your listening pleasure…

The wake up song: Beck - Broken Drum

I once fell asleep while my iTunes playlist was running. When I woke up, it was of course still playlist and had reached a very soothing track. It was 'Broken Drum' by Beck from one my all time favorite albums 'Guero'. I wouldn't recommend it as a snooze tone though, it's far too relaxing and you might end up being late for work!

The last song you listen to before leaving the house to go out: Butch - Dope

Well, that would have to be a recently-discovered track with a fresh vibe. At the moment, I'd have to choose 'Butch - Dope' - it's the kind of track always gives me great energy before my gigs.

The song that gets the crowd going: Oxia - Domino

Sets are usually the most inspiring when you hear tracks you haven't heard before, but a classic track can add the joy of recognition. 'Oxia - Domino' from 2006 saw a huge revival this summer. Many DJs, regardless of genre, played this track and received a great reaction, and I am no exception.

The sports soundtrack: Eats Everything feat. Tiga vs. Audion - Dancing (Again!)

'We Are The Champions' by Queen… Just kidding! It would definitely have to be something energetic. A lot of people have been asking me the ID for 'Dancing (Again!)' by Eats Everything feat. Tiga Vs. Audion when I've played it. It's a track that has created that peak moment in my sets lately, so that I guess it would be a good one for running or any sport that requires energy.

The first song in your DJ career

I have no idea, but I recorded a lot of cassettes from albums and radio for my own listening pleasure, and eventually people started asked me to bring my cassettes to their parties. I think that could well have been what motivated me to start DJing.
