Planet of the Crocs

If Allison Press looks familiar, it’s likely because you’ve seen her banging her righteous blond mane (seriously, girl has some amazing hair) onstage while banging the drums during her stint as a member of the very awesome XRay Eyeballs. Press is probably the only person I have ever met who left a band because they got signed. She left it for her jewelry line, Naked Label.

She loosely refers to Naked Label’s spring/summer 2012 collection as "Crocs in Space" or, alternately, "Planet of the Crocs," but its proper title is "Captured." When she was a kid she was obsessed with ancient Egypt and the legend of Atlantis, and was terrified of alligators, the latter of which probably had something to do with growing up in Florida. Her preoccupations culminated in nightmares about the swamp-dwellers walking around on two legs like people. To conquer her lingering subconscious fear of the killer crocs and gators, she cast their hides in bronze and sent them on a journey to the dark and moody cosmos.
