A Two-Second Interview with Cussins at SXSW

What do you know about Cussins?

I swear to Sky Beard that this will be the last thing I write about SXSW 2012. I just couldn't call a wrap on band camp week without letting you know about my early evening adventure with Cussins while deep in the trenches of Austin.

I would first like to present you with exhibit A of how Cussins won me over. This is the email they sent prior to me leaving for SXSW:

Subject line: SUP. My band's name is Cussins.

ΔΙΑΦΗΜΙΣΗ

Cussins is Jess, David, Ben, Stephen. We are four possum punks livin' it trill. We make shrimpy swamp music with our bods, and we like you to dance to it. We agree to disagree, but everyone agrees to have fun. The universe is our home, and Beaumont, Texas is where we chill hard. 3/4 of us live in or next to this old haunted house show house- Victoria House. We love music so much that we have shows usually once a week, or twice a month. We host touring bands, we rage em dicks off, and we eat the best fucking tacos. Almost everyone here is in a REALLY GOOD band- it's srsly weird!  Does that prove how much we love music? If you wanted to hang out, we are so good at that.  Other than being in our shows, we plan on getting fucked up and avoiding dirt naps. Even if you don't pick us to fuck around with, you should still let us buy you a beer. Or hand you a free one. xoxo

Exhibit B of why I had to meet up with Cussins is that I too enjoy "livin' it trill," but the main incentive was that the show they invited me to was being held at a bear/leather bar called Chain Drive.

During Cussins' set I drank beers and tapped my foot while semi-violently shaking my head around. After their set I enjoyed a shot of hard booze with the band, and then interviewed them on the homosexual bar's back patio. We talked about a lot of stuff, but mostly pinatas. There are a lot of pinata stores in Austin. Here's an action shot I took of one on the walk to Chain Drive:

I forgot to mention that before Cussins even played, I bought one of their t-shirts and a CD. I wore their shirt on the plane ride from Austin back home to New York, and then continued to wear it while buying milk shakes with my lesbian girlfriend that night.

In case you missed it, check out their video for "Goblin Cock" that we premiered last week HERE.
