Welcome the third and final installment of Marcus Rechsteiner of UV Race’s US tour diary. Last time we heard from the band they were hot-tubbing in Upstate New York, this week they eat backyard barbeque and get tattooed.
Hey everyone,
Videos by VICE
After playing Death by Audio in Brooklyn. NY we headed to Philadelphia. The first photo is of Moses sleeping in the van. Sleeping on tour can be a hard thing to do because of the late nights and constant travel.
The next photo was taken the day after our show in Washington D.C. It was Memorial Day so we couldn’t do the sightseeing we wanted to. We managed to see the White House, that’s what’s in the background.
The next photo is of us having dinner in Memphis at our friend Bruce’s house. It was great to be able to catch up with our friends and enjoy some southern food in his backyard. It was a nice change to eating at the venue or a restaurant.
The next photo is of Al hanging out at our drivers parents house in Dallas, Texas. Al bought me the cowboy hat he’s wearing. Also, note the sweet handlebar moustache he had for a couple of days. We had a lot of fun at Joe’s parents house: we got to go swimming in their pool and have a homemade meal.
After Memphis we went to Texas for Chaos in Texas. I collected all the wristbands from gigs we played. This photo is of me showing the wristbands before getting my tattoo. By the end of the tour it became harder for the wristbands to fit.
Once I took the wristbands off I got my Big Poppa tattoo. Big Poppa is my alternate personality, I was given it for having a walking cane. I talk in a southern accent and have a lot of fun with it.
Chaos in Texas was an amazing festival. It was great seeing so many punks in one city and our friends from all over the world. We even met some cool Canadians from Calgary who we hung out with for most of the weekend.
Our American friend Bailey, who used to live in Austin, took us to a natural spring swimming pool called Barton Springs. They had a diving board that I did a few bombs off to entertain my friends.
Thank you to everyone who came to our gigs and helped us out in various ways. A huge thanks also goes to Julia and Joe, our tour parents and spiritual guides.
