We forget that Craigslist isn’t only for finding that perfect BBW who is willing to sniff your feet and braid your beard for $9 an hour. Unlike the rest of us sickos, the multi-talented actress/writer/director/artist Miranda July saw something romantic and serendipitous about classifieds sections. And because July is, like, the most whimsical person ever, she went around Los Angeles with photographer Brigitte Sire and interviewed the people behind the ads. These stories have then been packed into her new book It Chooses You.
The official launch is tonight, and in the spirit of the book, McSweeney’s is hosting it at Partners & Spade's NoHo storefront, which is filled with miscellaneous objects that were all purchased off of Craigslist. And just like in the book, every seller was interviewed, and their stories are packaged alongside their merchandise. Some will even be in attendance at tonight’s opening reception. You can even bring your foot-sniffing, beard-braiding BBW.
