Where Did All the Mall Goths Go?

And more stuff in VICE Style's Week in Tidbits.

Over the past week, while contemplating our fashion editor Sam's new haircut—a fine set of curtains he insists on hiding under his cap—we found out there's a store in Brazil whose coat hangers are directly linked to Facebook's 'Like' button, got nostalgic for the time Marilyn Manson was interesting, got excited about some jewelry based on Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain, and even enjoyed an Australian fashion show.

TUMBLING DARKLY

The Tumbling Darkly tumblr is full of photos of "mall Goths, tween Goths and spooky kids," most of whom based their look on Marilyn Manson back when he looked like Thierry Mugler's bondage-based Rick Owens nightmare onstage and everyone else's cripplingly terrifying nightmare offstage. It's kind of a shame these kids have disappeared from all but the most suburban towns, because they do that dark, scary thing so much better than the fashion people ripping them off.

LIKE YOUR CLOTHES

Luddites and conspiracy theorists, just accept it: the world is ever-increasingly becoming a hyper-capitalist version of Minority Report. And the masses don't seem to give a shit—they actively support the move towards sharing everything, while knowingly promoting material goods for absolutely free. For example, Brazilian store C&A just launched these clothes hangers that are linked to Facebook photos of the products hanging off them, so anyone can walk into the store, click a button on the hanger, and the online product photo will receive a 'Like.' Take THAT, anti-capitalists.

HOLY MOUNTAIN

Ambush's new line of jewelry takes its inspiration from that Alejandro Jodorowsky film Holy Mountain—less the paraplegic dwarf and defecation into containers parts, and more the tripped-out, Jesus-on-acid parts. Think animal horn earrings, all-seeing eye necklaces, and knuckle dusters that make your hands look like claws. Oh, and yes, that is the lovely Eriko Nakao getting attacked by a psychedelic polar bear.

AFW: ROMANCE

Even though one dress looked like a novelty cooking apron, and another a blind ringmaster's outfit, I think I still love Romance Was Born's new collection for being literally the only thing that took any risks at this year's Australian Fashion Week. Taking design cues from Marvel comics has proved, in the past, to be a really dud move, but the Australian brand's comic-inspired patterned print work and insane, extraterrestrial styling actually lent something to the collection, rather than just making it look like the uninspired dregs from an Etsy craftsman's throwaway dungeon.
